The Insurance Fund for Motorized Fishing Vessels and Their Crews is a cornerstone of support for the marine fishing sector in Egypt.
Law No. 158 of 2003 mandated insurance with the Fund for all motorized fishing vessels and their crews. The Fund is subject to oversight by the Egyptian Insurance Regulatory Authority to ensure the highest standards of transparency and financial discipline.
The Fund officially commenced operations on March 8, 2003, following the issuance of the law’s executive regulations and the approval of the insurance policy by the Egyptian Insurance Regulatory Authority. Since then, it has provided comprehensive insurance services, including protection for vessels and crew members against maritime risks and accidents.
Since its establishment, the Fund’s operations have expanded to cover all governorates of the Republic. It has witnessed a significant increase in the number of insured vessels and crew members year after year, along with a continuous rise in the volume of premiums collected and compensation paid to beneficiaries. The Fund has also established a sophisticated technical and financial system that enables the professional management of claims and calculation of technical provisions, ensuring the swift disbursement of compensation and the stability of fishermen and boat owners.
The Fund continues to fulfill its national role in supporting the fishing sector and developing its resources through an integrated insurance system aimed at achieving security, sustainability, and social protection for those working in this vital sector.
